Photography - ISO 400 Black and White film captured on Mamiya RZ67 90mm lens, enlarged onto light-sensitive paper.

Monochromatic photography interrogates the relationship between highlights and shadows in a depth that is lessened by the interruption of colour. What remains is undiluted exploration of the way light plays across a scene. Coupled with the often rigid, monumental structures depicted in architectural photography, light is directed like a studio’s stage and reflected in likewise striking paths and patterns. Natural beauty is undeniable; however, the images above are important: they are quintessentially human. These shafts of light would not be shaped so without human engineering steering their paths. Even in an endless universe, light only paints these shapes here.

These images are taken of various buildings on the campus of the Australian National University, perceived from alternate angles.
